Babe Ruth facts

*Babe Ruth was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on Feb. 6, 1895.
* George Herman "Babe" Ruth started playing baseball in 1914 for the Boston Red Sox. In 1915, he his first major league home run and continued to break records throughout his career. Babe Ruth died in 1948.
* In April 1931, the New York Yankees faced the minor league Chattanooga Lookouts in an exhibition game in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Lookouts' female pitcher, 17-year-old rookie southpaw Jackie Mitchell, struck out Babe Ruth, then followed up by striking out Lou Gehrig. She received a standing ovation from the crowd.

*Hall-of-Fame pitcher and outfielder Babe Ruth played 22 Major League Baseball seasons between 1914 and 1935. Ruth hit a then-record 714 home runs and won seven World Series titles while playing for the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees and Boston Braves
* Babe Ruth played in the majors 22 seasons, from 1914 to 1935. He struck out 1,330 times during his career. His lowest number of strikeouts in a season was four in 1914 while playing for the Boston Red Sox. Ruth's highest total was 93 strikeouts with the Yankees in 1923
